Words of the West Wind is one of the most beloved Chinese art songs for young singers, composed by Zi Huang, a pioneering figure in early 20th-century Chinese art music. With poetic lyrics by Fushu Liao, the song personifies the west wind as a gentle messenger of time and change, reflecting on growth, memory, and the passage of seasons.

The melody is lyrical and transparent, supported by refined harmonic language that blends Western compositional techniques with Chinese poetic sensibility. Though often performed by children, the work requires careful phrasing, tonal purity, and expressive nuance.

This performance features young singers between the ages of four and twelve. Under the artistic direction of Sun Minghui, the interpretation emphasizes natural tone production, clarity of diction, and age-appropriate musical expression, while preserving the poetic atmosphere and structural integrity of Huang Zi’s composition.
